Tarquinius Superbus, King of Rome from 534 B.C. to 509 B.C. was found dead in Cumae 14 years after his rule of Rome. According to various reports, he has died of natural causes.
Tarquinius ruled Rome for 25 years, and is most famous for being exiled after his son, Sextus, caused Lucretia to kill herself. The incident led to the exile of Tarquinius and to the new Roman government. “I am glad he’s gone, he never did anything for the citizens, he was a tyrant. We lived in fear, look at how Lucretia ended up. Nothing good came from that man” said Cato, a Roman citizen. After Tarquinius Rome changed the system of government. Because of Tarquinius the Roman republic was created in place of kings as a way to make sure that Rome never saw a tyrant like Tarquinius Superbus again. Two consuls now assume the most power in Rome, but the senate still holds a large amount of Rome’s power. The new system is supposed to give more power to the people of Rome. “This new system of government will fix the issues that we have had in the past with tyrannical rulers, and assassinations. We will give more power to the people of Rome.” said a Roman Consul. This new system was in jeopardy for a short period of time. After his exile, Tarquinius Superbus, returned to Rome with Lars Porsena. Superbus expected Porsena to give the kingship back to him but Porsena did not. “If Porsena had restored the kingship to him, we would be in a far worse position than we are right now. There would be no republic, and life in Rome would not be pleasant” said a Roman senator. With the death of Tarquinius Superbus, Rome has lost its final king but there is hope in the new Republic. |

The Reign of The Proud |
Servius Is dead |
The reign of ur old king, Tarquin The Proud has been long over. However, he has died after the kingship has been abolished. He had reigned from 535 BC to 509 BC. He was the final King of Rome. Now that there is an empire, kings have no place in society. The final king has died. In the beginning of his reign, he killed the previous king, Servius. After refusing to give him a proper burial, Tarquin The Proud put to death many senators that were suspected of being loyal to Servius. He allied with Octavius Mamilius after allowing his daughter to marry him. He was powerful among the Latin chiefs. Tarquin bribed many people to gain his allies with the Latins. For example, he bribed the servant of Turnus, a Latin chief, into storing swords in his house and accusing him of plotting the assassination of Tarquin. “It was a lot of money and I decided that it would be best for me to do this. Plus, I was making friends doing it.” says the servant. He also started a war with the Volsci and took over the wealthy town of Suessa Pometia. This brought many riches to Rome and he conquered land too. He was very sneaky with conquering Gabii. He used his son to act as one of the Gabii people and they trusted him with their army. He then told his father how to conquer the city. He renewed peace treaties with the Acqui and Etruscans, gaining even more allies. He also conquered the Sabines. “I’m just glad we’re not going into war with each other. I know this king isn’t the nicest to people.” Says Atticus Maximus, an Etruscan man. In Rome, he erected many temples. He also built many things to benefit the city. His final plan was to attack Rutuli, a very wealthy nation. His army failed in their attempts and turned to drinking. Tarquin The Proud was beginning to lose a little pride. The people of Rome determined that they would have him exiled out of Rome. Now he has passed away at The Court of Aristodemus at Cumae. The final king of Rome swallowed his pride and has finally died. |
The king, Servius Tullius has been found dead, and the culprit won't surprise you at all. In shocking news king Servius Tullius has just been killed. He was brutally murdered because of a feud with his brother in law. Sirius's brother in law, Tarquinius Superbus, had been in a great fury of anger ever since he did not become the king of rome, but instead, his adopted younger brother. Tarquinius with a group of armed men went to the senate house today and gave a speech in front of the senate. The speech that Tarquinius gave was criticizing Servius and his rule over Rome. It included how he was a slave born a slave and that he was never elected by the senate to become king, but was just put there. Servius then showed up to the ongoing scene to defend his position and dignity. Servius was then thrown down a flight of steps onto the hard ground. Tarquinius men followed servius down the stairs and proceeded to brutally murder him. The next thing that happened is truly horrifying. Service's own daughter, who seems to come out of no where, runs over her dad's already bloody dead corpse. After the bloody crime had finished, Lucius Tarquinius declared himself king, thus making him the second unelected king in a row. Augustino, a Roman Senator said: “What we have just witnessed is truly horrifying. It feels like we have no power anymore. Kings are just electing themselves at this point. We need to fix this or people are just going to start doing whatever they want, following their king's actions.” The Roman senate has now officially not picked the last two kings to rule Rome and who knows what is to hold in the following weeks and months with the new king. We met a Roman citizen named Augustus, he had witnessed the whole crime and the blood bath that occurred: “It was crazy. The king just died!” He said. “The new kings seems like a very aggressive guy and that's what I like in a king, an aggressive man who is not afraid to attack.” The Roamn world is in a shock right now but we will se what is to come for the new king. AccomplishmentsThe seventh king, Tarquinius Superbus, has just been sent into exile, possibly ending the line of kings. Many Romans are agreeing that Tarquinius will go down in Rome history for his many accomplishments that he has brought us. Let us reminisce about these accomplishments that he has brought onto us.
To start off, when he was first elected king after he and Tullia had killed Servius, he removed all of the senators, killing some, and named himself the dictator of Rome. After being sent to exile, a senate Virgilius told us his thoughts he has had bottled up for a long time about his decision of removing the senate, “When he made that decision I was in shock, I mean Rome without a senate! What was he thinking?” Another major accomplishment that he has brought to Rome was he finished the project of building the temple of Jupiter. Tarquinius Priscus was the man who had started the project and was unable to finish it because of death. People described the statue as “wonderful” and “grand”, and one other described it as, “A piece of art that will hopefully last forever for one of our great gods” Tarquinius also conquered much neighboring lands and he was able to get a victory over the Sabines.. On top of this he had gathered Latin leaders and was able to compromise a treaty between Rome and and the Latins. Another treaty he was able to renew was between the Etruscans. Tarquinius has been sent into exile and there are many rumors going around that the monarchy will be ending soon making Tarquinius the possible last king which could also be seen as an accomplishment. The people don’t know what to think of the possible new change of Rome becoming a republic, but it will hopefully work out for us Roman citizens in the end. |
